TONY PEYLA

The Dance Shoppe

BIO 2005:

After high school and my time as a DOTY I moved to L.A. for a few months but wound up moving to Las Vegas when I received a contract with "Enter The Night" at the Stardust casino. I worked there for six months and then moved to Chicago to become a member of River North Chicago Dance Company. After three seasons with River North, I took a year off from dancing to do carpentry and some volunteer work with the National Forest Service. However, I found that I wasn't done with dance and took a contract with a modern company, Thodos Chicago Dancers where I had the opportunity to work with Ann Reinking and choreograph my first concert piece, "Life Sentence," for the "New Dances" showcase in 2004. I left Thodos in 2004 and have since worked with the Chicago Opera Theater as the principal role of "Tadzio" in "Death in Venice" and with the Lyric Opera of Chicago as a chorus dancer in "AIDA" and a principal in "The Cunning Little Vixen." I am performing with the Lyric again this fall as a principal dancer in "A Midsummer Marriage," choreographed by Wayne McGregor, the director of Random Dance Theatre in Sadlers Wells, England. I will also be performing at the International Dance Festivals in Vail, Colorado, and Miami, Florida this fall. This past spring I went to Europe for two months to audition with contemporary dance companies in Stockholm, Madrid, and Barcelona and am also pursuing Hubbard Street Dance Company in Chicago. I have been in Chicago since 1999 and currently live with my girlfriend, who I am proposing to this year!
