Beaufort Academy of Dance

Teacher(s) Aleisia Ashlaw

Being Dancer of the Year has truly been a life changing experience. The improvement in my dancing that I have noticed over this year has been tremendous. Training and performing with this wonderful faculty, as well as the rest of the Tremaine Performance Company, has been something I will never forget. I would like to thank Joe Tremaine and the rest of the Faculty for providing me with such a wonderful opportunity that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

My name is Gunner Sandifer, I am 18 years old, and dancing is what I live for. I live in Ridgeland, South Carolina, where I have recently graduated from High School. In my spare time I enjoy photography, listening to music and spending the little time at home that I have with my family. My Mom, Dad, and my two younger siblings are the people who keep me going and support me through everything I do. Without them I wouldn't have grown into the person I am.

When I was younger I would always dance around the house and bring all of my friends over to dance with me. I would teach my friends a routine and then we would all put on a show for our families. After many performances, my Mom thought it would be a good idea to sign me up for some lessons. At the age of seven I walked through the doors of Beaufort Academy of Dance, where I started training in all styles of dance. After about two years Aleisia Ashlaw, the Director of Beaufort Academy of Dance (Miss Alli), saw something in me and asked me to be a part of her company. Now I am currently an Elite Company Member with Beaufort Academy of Dance and I am so thankful for Miss Alli and my fellow teammates who have pushed me and supported me through everything.

My first time at a Tremaine Dance Convention, was definitely one of my most memorable. I knew right then and there that competing and traveling to Dance Conventions was what I wanted to do. I can remember seeing other DOTY's in class and I was always so blown away by their talent. I have dreamt of becoming a Dancer Of The Year for so long and I feel so blessed to finally be the 2011-12 Tremaine Senior Male Dancer Of The Year. Someone once told me, "Always give everything I do my best, because in life you will only go as far as you are willing to push yourself." I would like to thank Mr. Joe Tremaine, Ms. Julie Adler and the Tremaine Faculty for providing me with this wonderful opportunity and I am thrilled and looking forward to having an amazing year with Tremaine Dance Conventions.
