Machita Eyre is celebrating her 35th Anniversary as a dance educator, and is
owner and director of Machita & Co., Inc. Dance Studio in West Baton Rouge,
Louisiana.
Growing up in La Canada, California, Machita was on scholarship at Ballet
Petit and studied with Joyce Johnson, her teacher and her mentor. Ballet Masters
at Ballet Petit, George and Katrina Tatar opened many doors for the Ballet Petit
dancers as they spent a life-altering summer in Budapest, Hungary, studying with
the Royal Hungarian Ballet Company. Machita's passion for teaching was ignited
in Europe.
Returning to the United States she opened a small ballet school at the age of
sixteen and was recognized by Teen Magazine as a young entrepreneur. Machita
later received a B.S. in Education from Louisiana State University and made
Louisiana her home.
A member of Dance Educators of America for fifteen years, Machita encourages
education and community involvement. She is Dance Coordinator and Chairman of
the Louisiana Senior Olympics and serves on several boards involving the Fine
Arts. Machita's strong community ties involve her students in fund raising help
organizations such as Cystic Fibrosis, Juvenile Diabetes and Cancer care and
research.
Machita's award winning competition team competes throughout the United
States and has consistently received high point score recognition. Machita's
work has been awarded several choreography awards by national dance
organizations and her students are title winners and recipients of dance
scholarships to the Tremaine Dance Conventions, L.A. Performing Arts Center,
Destination Dance, Broadway Dance Center, DEA Ballet Seminars and to the Joffrey
Workshop Texas and Elite Ecole Workshop Texas.
Machita and her husband Henry are celebrating 31 years of marriage. Their
daughter Nina is a nurse in New York City and their youngest daughter Marisa
will graduate this year from LSU. Her engineer son Trey and soon-to-be engineer
son Mark work at their father's side at Henry C. Eyre Jr., P.E., Inc. Consulting
Engineers in Baton Rouge.
Machita's passion for teaching dance is carrying on into the next generation
of dancers.
