NATIONAL GALA HONOREES
Joshua will receive his award during our
31st Anniversary National Finals Gala on July 10, 2012,
at the Renaissance Orlando at Seaworld
Joshua Bergasse, a New York-based choreographer and teacher, who is the choreographer for NBC’s new hit musical drama Smash, which was just renewed for a second season. You may have seen him in multiple episodes portraying the on-screen choreographer as well.
 Most recently, he choreographed a group routine for the top-10 dancers on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, and The Sound of Music at Carnegie Hall.
Bergasse has also choreographed a variety of musicals, the off-Broadway production of Bomb-Itty of Errors, and Captain Louie at the Little Shubert and York Theaters; the national and international tours of Fame the Musical; West Side Story at the Stratford Festival, Barrington Stage Company, Fulton Theatre and North Carolina Theatre; Guys and Dolls, Carousel, The World Goes Round also at the Barrington Stage; Tarzan at North Shore Music Theatre; La Cage..., Beehive, Cagney at the Riverside Theatre; Smokey Joe’s Café at AMTSJ, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and the Riverside Theatre; Tommy, South Pacific and Crash Nation at the Cherry County Playhouse; and a new ballet, The Baker Dances at Indiana University. His other credits as a choreographer include American Songbooks; Fascinatin Rhythm at Lincoln Center, The Face of Tisch gala at Lincoln Center, and When Everything was Possible at New York City Center. As a performer, Bergasse has been seen in the Broadway and national touring companies of Movin’ Out, Hairspray, The Life and West Side Story. In addition, he has toured with the Manhattan Dance Project and Tremaine Dance Conventions, as a master educator. Besides being a 14 year member of the faculty at Broadway Dance Center, Bergasse is the Artistic Director for the Musical Theater Performance Project at BDC. Other credits include having been either a guest choreographer or guest faculty member at New York University, Marymount Manhattan College, Indiana University, James Madison University, Shenandoah University, Kean University, Creighton University and the University of California Irvine Satellite Program.
