I am 16 years old and a high school junior in Ramsey, New Jersey. As a member of "In the Spotlight's" senior company,
I continue to take class and compete there as I have done for the last 10 years. I follow in the footsteps of my four siblings who all have trained and competed with "In the Spotlight". It was inevitable that I would develop a passion for hip-hop after training with excellent teachers like Dan Karaty and my brother Jeff Lapes, to name a few. I am inspired by them and will continue dancing and training to reach my own potential.
Being chosen as Tremaine's 2006-2007 "Dancer of the Year" was an honor and a thrill that I will never forget. I had hoped - but never expected that I would win and it changed my life. It gave me the opportunity to travel and to assist the Tremaine faculty, and helped me grow as a dancer and a person. I want to thank Joe Tremaine for this incredible honor. I also want to thank Keith Dillion -
for all the hard work he does for the DOTY program and for being so nice to me and to all of us. I also want to thank the wonderful faculty who all helped me and taught me so much during my year as a DOTY.
In my spare time, I am on the wrestling team at my school, I enjoy riding my dirt bike, snowboarding, weight training, going to Giants games, and hanging with my friends. I also am an avid car enthusiast looking forward to getting my license in February of 2011 and driving my modified Dodge Challenger. My favorite artists are Neo, Usher, and Lil Wayne.
Congratulations to Joe and the entire faculty for reaching the 30 year milestone.
