Dancing Plus

BIO 2008:

Since my 1998 DOTY year, I’ve been very busy. I went from being a competitive dancer, cheerleader, coach and teacher to heading off to college. Shortly after my DOTY stint I worked for Univision television network as a cast member singer/dancer in more than 36 shows for “Quiro Ser Estrella” and “Sabado Gigante” both of which are international television variety shows. In addition, I was a dancer for 4 years on the NBA’s Miami Heat Jr. Jam and 3 years as a dancer for the WNBA’s Miami Sol Patrol. I choreographed and edited music for both teams. I had the opportunity to perform in a dance showcase aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Explorer of the Seas. For three years I had the honor of performing at Walt Disney’s Candlelight Processional and Massed Choir and the University of Miami Honor Choir. I attended a private high school with an exceptional performing arts department of which I had the opportunity to act, sing, dance, choreograph, create sound design and assist with stage construction for the following productions: Shadow Box, Cabaret, Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens, House of Blue Leaves, The Boyfriend, Medea and Seussical the Musical. My participation in these productions garnered me awards in dance, voice and acting, such as Best Male Dancer in a Musical, Best Supporting Actor, Outstanding Tenor, Best Choreography of a Play/Musical and Best Ensemble Performance in a Musical. I had secured six South Florida Cappies related to these productions. In addition, I was a competitive cheerleader for six years, winning both National and World recognition with Miami Elite as a cheerleader, a coach and choreographer. I was on the winning team of the Cheerleading Worlds Championship for two years in a row. I’ve been actively choreographing since I was 13 years old for local dance studios. For the past 4 summers I have been an instructor for Action Spirit’s Summer Camp Cheer and Dance which enabled me to travel the country teaching, choreographing and designing music for various teams.

Now my home is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I attend Point Park University. I am a third year Dance Major and a first year Cinema Digital Arts and Video Production Major. Besides having a double major, I have become a certified Yoga Instructor so in my spare time I teach 4 Yoga Classes a week. I am a guest performer with a local dance company called Pillow Projects and I assist a local Cheerleading Gym called Fire and Ice with coaching and choreography. I have started my own company called Dready or Knot Productions and my first artistic endeavor as Knot Dance Co. is scheduled for March of 2008.

I once had a drama teacher tell me that I would never be successful unless I selected one artistic area. I obviously disagree with this point of view. I believe as a creative individual that you have the ability to cross over many aspects of the industry and the more you learn the better your ability to maintain vision and broadmindedness. There should be no limitations stipulated otherwise your creative juices will be stifled.

P.S. My family changed the spelling of our last name to Landi instead of Landy. My Dad wanted to go back to his Italian Roots. My sister said that every great designer ends in an "i" (Armani, Gucci, Fendi). I just went along for the ride.
